Historic Downtown McCormick is the seat of the county. During the Colonial era, French Huguenots and other Europeans settled in the area. McCormick was home to Fort Charlotte--one of the first forts seized by the Americans during the Revolutionary War.
The town later established a lush gold mine and cotton mill. The Heritage Gold Mine is still operational and open to the public for panning a few times a year! Today McCormick’s downtown is a mix of shops, dining, and cultural points of interest.
The McCormick Arts Council at the Keturah (The MACK) features local artisans, an art gallery, and an array of classes and lively evening events.
McCormick hosts three annual hallmark events treasured by the entire region: The Western SC Blueway Festival in June, The Gold Rush Festival in September, and Holiday on Main in December.
McCormick is adjacent to three scenic state parks with miles of hiking trails and freshwater coastline: Baker Creek State Park, Hamilton Branch, and Hickory Knob Resort. Hickory Knob golf course is exceptional with breathtaking views of the lake, wildlife, and surrounding forest.
McCormick is also home to Savannah Lakes Village, a diverse community with two award-winning golf courses, lakefront homes, and lots and miles of hiking trails.
